Skip my reason for my hyperlink. It is as follows: During Queen Victoria's Reign there was great agricultural innovations but the industrial advancements were especially enjoyed by the wealthy, Queen Victoria was trying the new telephone in 1878, printing exhibitions at the great exhibition promised new ways to deliver literature throughout Europe in 1851, There were now great new railway stations connecting Europe to many great cities in 1894, the new middle class kitchens had new appliances and new cooking ways in 1880, the new century dress fabrics made with new textiles really made the men look very impressive, not to mention the women with their fantastic dresses and gowns made them look like princess and queens, even the young girls were dressing very sophisticated, displaying their class in society from the 1860s forward, the Great Eastern Steamship was launched in 1857, provided the wealthy with all the luxuries and comforts of home while traveling at sea to far away lands. Unfortunately as it normally goes, thee workers who made these products suffered atrocious and deadly working conditions and continued to live in agonizing and terrible poverty. The workers who built the London underground in 1895 suffer the grueling heat and hard work of digging the tunnels by hand for many years, the women spent long and hard days working the cotton factories in 1873, and the children worked even harder in the dangerous coal mines in 1842 where many died when the mines would cave in. The conditions were deplorable and unsafe in these factories, There were no safety concerns when it came to producing for the factory owners, In 1898 alone there were 57,423 accidents reported to the factory representatives, only 38,199 were reported to the inspectors, 725 of those reported were deaths caused by accidents. This was just factories surrounding one geographical area. At the time Glasgow was one of this geographical area, it was a terrible slum where many factory workers lived, with so many great innovations its a shame to see this part of the population not being able to prosper at all. We wonder if we can even say that this was a great era for men or for those that were already fortunate. Since no fortune ever came for those that really provided more fortune for those that were already fortunate.
